Function - Levers

Levers are another simple machine and can be used to help move and lift heavy objects.  We made our own levers using sticks, tape and rubber bands. We had to use our lever to flick and move a jellybean! 

When we had made our levers, we went outside to have a competition to see which lever could flick the jellybean the furthest. One lever managed to flick the jellybean right across the whole court! 

Function - Inclined Planes

We have started our learning around our inquiry topic for this term - Function - Simple Machines.

There are six simple machines that can help us make work easier and we began our inquiry by looking at inclined planes. We learnt inclined planes are a sloped surface like a ramp. They are used to help us move or lift heavy loads.

We had a lot of fun using blocks to make our own ramps or inclined planes that we could move a toy car down.

Poetry Writing

This week we did some poetry writing.  We wrote 5 W's poems using the following format.  

Line 1: Who or what the poem is about.
Line 2: What is he/she/it doing?
Line 3: When does this action take place?
Line 4: Where does it take place?
Line 5.Why or an I wonder question?
