Construction Week in Room 10

In the last week of term we did some box modelling. We had collected lots of boxes to use and could design and construct anything that we wanted to make. There were lots of great ideas and lots of problem solving to get things to work and stick together.

Systems

Over Term 2 we have been looking at Earth Systems and the way all these systems interact. We had to learn some big words like Lithosphere, Geosphere, Atmosphere and Hydrosphere. As part of our learning we made  models of the water cycle.

We then did an individual inquiry around a topic of our choice that related to any of the spheres.  The first step was to choose our inquiry topic. Next we wrote some question about the things we wanted to find out. Then we had to do our own research using books, the I-Pads and the class computers. We published our questions, answers and illustrations on large sheets of paper.

How do we get floods?
How do the oceans move together?

Niday

We also went to Campbells Bay to look at how the hydrosphere and lithosphere interact. We made sand castles and used water to show how elements of the hydrosphere - (water) affect the land (lithosphere). We walked along the beach to have a look at how the recent rain has caused some land to slip down the cliffs. We had a great time collecting rocks and even though the weather was not great we were able to link what we had been learning about in the class room to the actual environment that we saw at the beach.

It has been a great inquiry topic and we have all learnt lots of new information about the world around us.

Learning to use chopsticks

On Wednesdays, Lily comes to our class to teach us some Mandarin. This week she showed us how to use chopsticks. It was not very easy to work out how to hold the chopsticks. To help us learn how to use the chopsticks, Lily gave us some M&M's in a bowl and we had to use the chopsticks to pick them up. It took a lot of practice to get it right! But the good thing was that then we got to eat the M&M's!

Making Afternoon in Room 10

One of the reading groups had been reading a book called "The Impossible Bridge" and thought it would be a good idea to try to make a bridge themselves. They made quite an impressive structure, so we thought it would be fun to all have a go at making a bridge or some type of structure.

Life Education Dress Up Day

This week we had a mufti day where we could wear our animal onsies, or dress up as an animal to help fund raise for Life Education. During our sessions in the Life Education Caravan we have been learning about the brain, our feelings and our senses,

Look at our amazing outfits!
